The book covers two main periods of the new and modern history: from 1801, when the Russian Empire annexed the kingdom of Kartl-Kakheti, until 1918, when Georgia temporarily restored its independence, and the times following 26 May 1918, rich in historical and political events leading to successful achievement of independence from the Soviet Union.

The present book is a short version of the history coursebook adopted for the 9th grade schoolchildren.
