As a rule, poets take a long and arduous road until they discover their own, individual poetic ‘voice’. They try various methods and work hard before their painful discovery. In Shota Iatashvili’s case it happened the other way round: at the beginning of his career, he had already found his own style, imagery and poetic model. From time to time he returns to his initial model, while in between, he seems to be re-discovering different, often opposing ways of reaching his own self, as if trying new approaches from various angles.
