Translated from English by Gia Beradze
The novel is based on a series of events in the life of an American frontiersman Hugh Glass, who worked in the Rocky Mountain Fur Company and was mauled and wounded by a grizzly bear in 1823. After being left for dead by his companions, even those two who were responsible for looking after him, Glass survived and went on for the quest to pay his revenge.
This is when Glass’s unbelievable story of survival begins. The thirst for revenge is what keeps him fighting for life. The road he takes embodies various stories and tells us about the character of a person who can be equally strong and weak and who has unlimited abilities at the same time.
The book has served as an inspiration for the same-title Hollywood movie, which was granted the highest American Film Academy award – the Oscar in 2016.
